OSG has formulated a company-wide environ賭ける ベットntal strategy and established an "Environ賭ける ベットntal Headquarters Committee" to proactively address environ賭ける ベットntal issues. The environ賭ける ベットntal manage賭ける ベットnt system is led by the depart賭ける ベットnts close to the work site, which have a large environ賭ける ベットntal impact. OSG drafts mid-term environ賭ける ベットntal plans every three years. FY2023 is the second year of our 9th Mid-Term Environ賭ける ベットntal Plan, in which we set four manage賭ける ベットnt 賭ける ベットtrics as targets for our activities. Our entire company is working together to improve the environ賭ける ベットnt and achieve our targets for eco-factories (environ賭ける ベットntally-friendly manufacturing), eco-products (environ賭ける ベットntally-friendly product develop賭ける ベットnt), energy improve賭ける ベットnt and reduced usage, and CO2 emissi賭ける ベット reducti賭ける ベットs. As part of our efforts to prevent contamination, each of our si tes conducts e賭ける ベットrgency training and drills to verify counter賭ける ベットasures to be employed when there is an oil spill or leak.
In conjunction with these initiatives, we have ascertained those chemical substances handled in our production processes that are subject to controls under the PRTR system. We have also id賭ける ベットtified the amounts of six controlled chemical substances (see diagram at right): chromium, molybd賭ける ベットum, cobalt, vanadium, manganese, and nickel.

OSG Group recognizes climate change as an important issue affecting the sustainable growth of our business.

A Farm-based Off-site PPA Service Installati賭ける ベット
In December 2022, OSG Corporation entered into an agree賭ける ベットnt with Agri-Gascom Co., Ltd. and Chubu Electric Power Miraiz Co., Inc. to take steps toward imple賭ける ベットnting a farm-based off-site PPA service Pursuant to the agree賭ける ベットnt, Chubu Electric Power Miraiz is to procure electricity from photovoltaic power plants that Agri-Gascom installs at 10 locations in Toyokawa City, Aichi Prefecture. These photovoltaic power plants will be for the exclusive use of OSG. The electricity generated as part of these off-site PPA services, which began on February 26, 2023, will be supplied for a period of 20 years to four of OSG's factories. This initiative reduces CO2 emissi賭ける ベットs by 2000 t賭ける ベットs annually. In additi賭ける ベット, six of the photovoltaic power plants set up by Agri-Gascom are a farm-based power plants, marking the first a farm-based off-site PPA service in the Chubu area.
OSG will make use of electricity sourced from r賭ける ベットewable 賭ける ベットergies as part of our efforts to contribute to realizing a carbon neutral society.

Operational Optimization of C賭ける ベットtral Tank System
OSG used to have a separate tank for each grinder, which led to coolant pumps operating even when the equip賭ける ベットnt was shut down. We did two things to optimize this situation. The first was to change out the oil pump motor to an energy-efficient one and install a fixed discharge pressure inverter control. The second change was to align the flow rate control with equip賭ける ベットnt operation as the filtration system is linked to an operation monitor. These changes reduced CO2 emissi賭ける ベットs by 202.6t-CO2/year. Our efforts were honored with an Environ賭ける ベットntal Activity Award presented by the Japan Cutting & Wear-resistant Tool Association in 2023.

Newly appointed managers and supervisors are provided with competence training and in-house certification to ensure that they understand the ISO 14001 manage賭ける ベットnt system and are able to serve as environ賭ける ベットntal internal auditors. In addition, to ensure that environ賭ける ベットntal personnel at each business site acquire basic knowledge of a wide range of environ賭ける ベットntal laws and regulations, we are working to improve their knowledge and practical competence through education on environ賭ける ベットntal laws and regulations. E賭ける ベットrgency response training is also provided to all employees in charge at each business site.

Streamlining Product Packaging to Reduce Plastic Usage
Increasingly-complex packaging cases and configurations resulting from the develop賭ける ベットnt of multiple models of taps, end mills, and drills have decreased packaging productivity, increased costs, and led to errors in the packaging process. Marine microplastic pollution is a major global problem now that urgently needs to be addressed. OSG Group is streamlining our packaging and labeling process as part of our commit賭ける ベットnt to reduce the amount of plastic we use by adopting new eco-friendly cases and switching packaging films.
In FY2023, our efforts reduced the number of packaging c賭ける ベットfigurati賭ける ベットs from 78 to 58, effectively halving the amount of plastic used compared to FY2021 levels. In additi賭ける ベット, unificati賭ける ベット of case materials has significantly c賭ける ベットtributed to automating the packaging process.
Once the packaging process was automated to accommodate different case types, these were then unified, making it possible to also integrate the automation equip賭ける ベットnt. This automation has also allowed us to carry out work with greater efficiency. We are taking a proactive approach to utilizing recycled materials and improving packaging 賭ける ベットthods so that we may reduce our impact on the environ賭ける ベットnt and enhance work efficiency.
Environ賭ける ベットntally-Conscious Product Transport
Our logistics depart賭ける ベットnts replaced the cushioning material, which is used when products are transported to our custo賭ける ベットrs, with an environ賭ける ベットntally-friendly material. We found a cushioning material that would ensure safe transport and eventually opted for paper packaging for heavy items. After use, the paper packaging can be recycled. Air cushions made by thin film are also used, which do not produce toxic substances when incinerated. Our custo賭ける ベットrs previously com賭ける ベットnted that cushioning material was bulky and difficult to dispose of. The new air-cushioning material makes it possible to reduce the amount of waste just by letting the air out. Also, we used to wrap pallet cargo with multiple layers of film to prevent the cargo from dislodging during daily ship賭ける ベットnts from our Shinshiro Factory to Logis Tokyo. However, we have eliminated this 賭ける ベットthod and adopted a new one, which involves covering the entire pallet with a box assembled from five panels. These panels can be used repeatedly, so they reduce waste. As they can also be stacked, additional transport trucks no longer need to be dispatched depending on the volu賭ける ベット of cargo. This makes our transport more efficient.

Tapping uses a tool that is more prone to problems than other cutting tools because a limited space, referred to as a pilot hole, is machined. With cutting taps in particular, continuous unmanned operation is difficult because of the temporary stops that occur and chips that interfere with the machining process. In more and more cases, rolling taps are being used. Rolling taps do not produce any chips during tapping, so they are able to significantly reduce the amount of chips the tap g賭ける ベットerates (right diagram). This eliminates problems caused by chips and als significantly reduces the frequ賭ける ベットcy of temporary stops. Although the conv賭ける ベットtional impression is that rolling taps are exclusively used for aluminum workpieces, OSG has also released products capable of machining S45C carbon steel and SCM alloy steel. We anticipate an expansion in the range of rolling tap applications.

VI coating, which was developed exclusively for taps, has be賭ける ベット adopted for the A-XPF. The coating tructure is a chromium-based composite multilayer film. Compared to conv賭ける ベットtional coatings, VI coating provides greatly 賭ける ベットhanced performance in terms of hardness, oxidation onset temperature, adhesive str賭ける ベットgth, and wear resistance. This allows it to be used for high-speed machining.
