TOYOKAWA―September 18, 2023―OSG Corporation today announced the development of "Green Tap," which is made by the company's new and original manufacturing method. By reducing power consumption in the manufacturing process, CO₂ emissions per tool during production can be reduced by approximately 50 percent compared to conventional taps (Size M6 x 1 - conventional tap: 1.1 kg-CO₂/tool vs. Green Tap: 0.55 kg-CO₂/tool). Selecting Green Tap leads to a reduction in CO₂ emissions related to thread processing.

Unique Tool Geometry Developed by CAE Analysis

Green Tap features a special thread specification (PAT. P) engineered to maximize cutting edge strength through CAE analysis of the plastic flow of the work material. With improved breakage resistance and cutting edge strength, high durability can be achieved. Through enhanced tool longevity, waste and negative impact to the environment can be minimized. In addition, Green Tap does not generate cutting chips during machining. When cutting chips are generated during threading, the machine may be stopped for chip removal. 1. Overview of incident, etc.

At around 6 a.m. on April 12, 2023, a failure was detected in our core system server. Investigation took place as a result, and it was discovered that files on the server were encrypted and infected with ransomware. After taking measures to prevent the spread of damage, such as disconnecting the server from our network, we immediately contacted a third-party cybersecurity organization to investigate. On May 24, 2023, investigation by the third-party cybersecurity agency was completed. It was confirmed that unauthorized access to our network occurred at around midnight on April 8 of the same year. The data on our server was then encrypted by ransomware from around 6 a.m. on April 12, making it unusable. Report from the third-party cybersecurity agency has determined that some of the data held by our company has been sent to an external party. There is a possibility that personal data was compromised because the server where the data was stored contained personal data (total of 27,000 cases). We have reported this matter to the Personal Information Protection Commission and have also reported this incident to the police, and will fully cooperate with future investigations.

In the early morning of April 12th, we detected that the server managed and operated by our company had been illegally accessed by ransomware from a third party, causing a failure in our internal system. In order to prevent the damage from spreading, we immediately took measures such as stopping the server and disconnecting the network from external parties.

Simultaneously, we are investigating the situation, causes, and routes of damage with the cooperation of third-party experts. Although we cannot completely deny the possibility that customers and personal information have been jeopardized due to the unauthorized access, we have not confirmed that information is compromised at this point. Regarding this situation, we have consulted with the Aichi Prefectural Police and submitted a report to the Personal Information Protection Commission.

Although orders and shipments have been slightly affected, production is operating as usual and is not impacted. At this time, we expect that the impact of this situation on our business performance to be minor.

Along with the measures to prevent the spread of the infection led by the IT department, we have set up a company-wide countermeasure headquarters, appointed external experts, and are consulting with appropriate organizations.
